Last week Alex and I went on a West Hollywood adventure, and found ourselves at Pink Taco for a beautiful outdoor lunch. The chips and salsa the restaurant provided was standard, delicious fare- I do wish the chips had a bit more salt though. We decided to complement the chips with some house guac, which unfortunately was fairly mediocre and needed a boost from the salsa (and definitely not worth the $9 price tag!). They were out of Alex’s first choice in cocktail, however the drinks we ended up with were both delicious and fresh- perfect for a sunny day. We started with the Tamarind Glazed Chicken Skewers on the recommendation of an acquaintance, and we were not disappointed. For me, the skewers were the highlight of the meal- a perfect balance of sweet, spicy and tangy. My main course was slightly disappointing- I took a risk with a wild mushroom quesadilla, hoping it would pay off, but no. The quesadilla was stuffed with cheese and very few mushrooms, and there was no sign of the epazote and roasted garlic, which were other listed components. The golden-brown, buttery tortilla was one point of redemption though. Alex’s fish tacos were much more successful- beautifully grilled fish, complemented by the various sauces within…these were some of Alex’s favourite fish tacos, period. All in all, Pink Taco does live up to the sceney hype, and next time I’ll back I will make a wiser decision regarding my entree. Because rest assured, I will certainly be back.
